Ingenuity Cleveland Will Hold the “IndieFest Filmmaker’s Workshop” on Thursday, June 13 at Creative House Studios in Cleveland

Cleveland, OH – Ingenuity Cleveland will be holding the “IndieFest Filmmaker’s Workshop” on Thursday, June 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Creative House Studios, 1490 East 40th St. in Cleveland. This free event is designed especially for independent filmmakers and enthusiasts.

Award-winning filmmakers Tom Megalis and Sean Lackey will be among the presenters. Megalis’s work has screened at the Sundance Film Festival and Lackey just wrapped on a feature starring Fred Willard and Colm Meaney. Jason Drake, Production Coordinator with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission will talk about the services GCFC provides such as site locations, casting calls and obtaining permits. Cynthia Graham and Peter Sampson, co-owners of Creative House Studios, are helping sponsor the event. They will be providing tours of their amazing facility. The space features the largest green screen in Ohio. It also has a beautiful kitchen that will have cash bar and appetizers available that evening.

“Ingenuity’s mission has always been to ignite the creative spark where the arts, science, and technology intersect. Perhaps no one medium speaks to this process better than independent filmmaking. Today’s indie filmmakers weave storyline, music and motion—all in a mosaic of digital technology,” says Ingenuity Director of Programming James Krouse. “You’ll have the opportunity to network with award-winning indie filmmakers, production companies and others involved in the film industry. You’ll also be the first to learn about the “IndieFest Film Festival” which will debut at IngenuityFest in September.

Presenter Tom Megalis is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Fine Arts. As an independent filmmaker, Tom has cultivated an international reputation for his dark comedic mix of live action and stop motion animation. His work has appeared at Sundance, The New York Film Festival, The Chicago International Film Festival, Hiroshima Animation Festival and Annecy Animation Festival in France. His films routinely capture awards like The National Endowment for the Arts, The Heinz Endowment Grant and the Southern Film Circuit. Tom’s television resume as a writer/director and animator includes work for Nickelodeon, MTV, HBO, Discovery, NBC, PBS, ABC, Warner Brothers Television, Comedy Central and FOX. His most recent feature film, Sonny Days II, appeared in the New Hope Film Festival in Philadelphia. Tom will showcase some of his films and discuss his unconventional style of shooting and directing.

Rocky River, OH native Sean Lackey not only wrote, starred-in and co-directed “The Yank,” a feature film released in 2013, but he also used his accounting background to help raise $1.3 million to get it produced. More than half the budget was used for paying Fred Willard and Colm Meaney, two major actors Lackey convinced to appear in his film. Shot on location in Cleveland, Dublin and County Clare, Ireland, “The Yank” tells the story of Tom Murphy, a middle-aged Cleveland bachelor whose best friend gets married in Ireland. The romantic comedy sends Tom on an epic adventure in pursuit of love. Sean, who owns an accounting firm, is also a veteran of Cleveland’s Second City Troupe and he produces “Flanagan’s Wake,” a musical comedy that runs every winter for three weeks in Cleveland’s PlayHouse Square. Sean will talk about how he was able to generate over a million dollars to produce his debut feature film. He’ll also discuss methods for getting your work in to distribution.

As co-owners of Creative House Studios in Cleveland, Cynthia Graham and Peter Sampson have assembled one of the finest production studios in the entire Midwest. But what makes it special is the ability for filmmakers to bring in their own equipment—typically not allowed by most studios. Says Peter, “The free market has spoken. People want a studio where they can bring in their own gear and crew and shoot it themselves. Or they can hire us to shoot it for them. Best of all any production company, filmmaker, corporation or individual may book the facilities at reasonable rates.”

Creative House Studio is ideal for the indie filmmaker. It has the largest green screen in Ohio (over 3,000 sq. ft.). The cyc is perfectly lit for green screening w/ 3200° K full-spectrum. The air conditioned studio is literally large enough to drive a truck into it. In addition to the shooting space, there’s a state-of-the-art conference room, makeup and wardrobe area with showers, and a full kitchen. Cynthia and Peter will offer full tours of the facility and explain all the services they provide filmmakers.

As Production Coordinator with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission (GCFC), Jason Drake helps provide independent filmmakers with a wide variety of services, most of which are free. In fact the mission of the GCFC is to assist those in the film industry—producers, actors, directors, cinematographers, etc. to succeed. The types of services GCFC offers include things such as location searches, access to municipalities and private properties, casting calls, obtaining permits, assembling production crews and more. Jason will show you how the GCFC has become a one-stop shop for filmmakers.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Set primarily in the 1970s and ‘80s, THE VETTERS: ALL WE NEEDED is an independent feature documentary about a close-knit family of six siblings from Chardon, Ohio, who overcame incredible odds to become State and National Champions, World Record holders, and Olympic contenders in track & field, cross country and wrestling. After the heartbreaking death of their mother when they were ages 7 to 14, their humble devoted father, John Vetter, raised the children of Mexican/Native American and European heritage on his own. Saddled with poverty and the lack of an extended family, the Vetters drew close and kept to themselves in response to threats that Social Services would split them up. Through intimate, emotional, and revealing interviews, the siblings share their story of an extraordinary family bond and unflinching determination that nothing was going to tear them apart. It’s a perfect movie for Father’s Day weekend.

Downtown Cleveland is enjoying an action-packed spring this year - everything from our professional sports teams’ games to music events and concerts to celebrating the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland’s first year anniversary.

Cleveland also beat out other cities around the country to host two major film productions this spring. We know the filming activity is causing temporary traffic reroutes, and we want to sincerely thank Clevelanders for their patience and their willingness to work with us as film crews finish their work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

City staff, including the Division of Traffic & Engineering and the Division of Police, Bureau of Traffic, will be working to keep traffic moving throughout the city as smoothly as possible. Also, pedestrians in Downtown Cleveland can look for Downtown Cleveland Alliance Ambassadors’ yellow shirts. DCA Ambassadors will guide pedestrians and connect them to up-to-date information from officials.

We know that Cleveland has had to work hard for its wins – and Clevelanders deserve to celebrate them.

That’s why we’re encouraging Northeast Ohio to get out there and continue to enjoy all the great events downtown Cleveland has to offer during the next month. Access to all of your favorite Cleveland venues including Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, The Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame, FirstEnergy Stadium and The Horseshoe Casino will always be maintained.

After all, Cleveland has earned it. We hope to see you out there.

Updated: Cleveland’s role in Marvel Studios’ Captain America:The Winter Soldier bring
important economic benefits and some temporary alternate traffic patterns too.

CLEVELAND – This spring, Cleveland will once again be buzzing with excitement as it hosts super heroes and film crews. Partnering with the production company and the Greater Cleveland Film Commission on this film will help position Cleveland to become a location destination for the movie industry and in turn, support local businesses and create jobs for Cleveland area residents. But transforming the streets into a movie set will require some temporatry road closures and alternate routes for motorists and pedestrians from May 18 through June 28, 2013 (weather permitting).

City staff, including the Division of Traffic & Engineering and the Division of Police, Bureau of Traffic, have been working with the production company, traffic-engineering consultant American Roadway Logistics and GCRTA to develop a plan to accommodate the needs of the film and help keep traffic moving throughout the city as smoothly as possible.

The production company will pay for additional Police Officers and Traffic Controllers to supplement the standard traffic detail for rush hours, special events and routine travel; and to ensure that the coordinated effort is effectively assisting traffic flow.

Primary among the road closures and alternate routes will be Cleveland’s West Shoreway, which will be closed (east and west bound) from Lake Avenue to E. 9th Street from May 30th through June 14th. Edgewater Park and the marinas north of the Shoreway will be accessed via West 49th St. Vehicles exiting Edgewater Park and the marinas will be directed out through the closed Westbound lanes of the Shoreway back to West 49th Street.

Other street closures and re-routing will occur in Downtown Cleveland, primarily between May 19th and June 14th. Additional closures may occur between June 14th and June 28th.

Updates will be provided on a regular basis through additional traffic advisories, press releases and social media. Follow on Twitter via #CLECaptTraffic. You may also view a list of closures and reroutes at www.clevelandmovietraffic.com or listen to an automated list of street closures that will be updated on a weekly basis at 866-999-4959.

Indians fans looking for information on the best ways to avoid limited road closures should visit “Indians.com/planyourtrip”.

Pedestrians in Downtown Cleveland can look for Downtown Cleveland Alliance Ambassadors’ yellow shirts. DCA Ambassadors will guide pedestrians and connect them to up-to-date information from officials.

The following chart & map details the dates and locations of impact, as well as alternate routes and additional information as needed. This listing is subject to change.

Various road closures may affect RTA customers. Please visit www.riderta.com or to call the RTAnswerline at 216.621.9500 for all the details.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT AND ODDLOT ENTERTAINMENT
KICKOFF PRODUCTION FOR DRAFT DAY ON APRIL 25, 2013

Principal Photography Starting in New York to Film during Actual
2013 NFL Draft and Will Continue in Cleveland

Santa Monica, CA April 24, 2013 – Summit Entertainment, a LIONSGATE® company, and OddLot Entertainment announced today that principal photography of the co-production of DRAFT DAY will commence on April 25th. Filming of the dramedy is starting in New York in time to film scenes during the actual 2013 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall. The movie, starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Ellen Burstyn and Denis Leary, is being directed and produced by Ivan Reitman from a script by Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman. The film will also feature Frank Langella, Chadwick Boseman, Terry Crews, Sean Combs, Josh Pence, Rosanna Arquette, Timothy Simons, David Ramsey, Wade Williams, Chi McBride, W. Earl Brown, Brad Henke, Griffin Newman, Kevin Dunn, Patrick St. Esprit, Arian Foster, Christopher Cousins, Pat Healy, Laura Steinel and Wallace Langham. Once filming in New York is complete, production will move to Cleveland.

OddLot Entertainment is co-financing the film. Producing the film with Reitman is OddLot’s CEO Gigi Pritzker along with Joe Medjuck, and Ali Bell via the Montecito Picture Company banner. Montecito’s Tom Pollock and Michael Buegg will executive produce.

DRAFT DAY continues in the tradition of Costner’s great sports themed films such as BULL DURHAM, FIELD OF DREAMS and TIN CUP. Costner won an Academy Award® for his work on DANCES WITH WOLVES and was most recently honored with a Golden Globe® for his performance in “Hatfields & McCoys.”

Reitman is the influential director and producer who changed the face of American film comedy by producing ANIMAL HOUSE and then directing MEATBALLS, STRIPES, and GHOSTBUSTERS. Reitman’s other directing credits include: TWINS, KINDERGARTEN COP, SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS, DAVE, and most recently, NO STRINGS ATTACHED.

Erik Feig, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s President of Production, said, “DRAFT DAY is that perfect movie with a little something for everyone – adrenaline, high stakes, laughs, and ultimately a fantastic group of characters brought to screen by a master director. We are thrilled to be starting production on what we know will be an instant classic with our friends and partners at OddLot and Montecito.”

“We are thrilled to continue our collaborative relationship with Summit and Lionsgate on DRAFT DAY and excited to work on this project with Ivan, Tom and Kevin,” said Michael Nathanson and Bill Lischak, Co-Presidents of OddLot. “We look forward to starting principal photography next week during the actual NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall which gives this film a great sense of authenticity.”

“We are very proud to be producing DRAFT DAY, a great screenplay we found and championed, which then went on to be the number one script on last year’s Black List,” said Montecito co-owner Tom Pollock. “For Ivan as a director, the project is reminiscent of DAVE, one of his best films, and for Kevin, it is in the spirit of FIELD OF DREAMS.”

In DRAFT DAY, on the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.

Feig and Meredith Milton, Summit Entertainment’s Executive Vice President of Production, will oversee the project for the studio. Linda McDonough, OddLot’s Executive Vice President of Production and Development, will oversee the project on behalf of OddLot.
